Problem:
CoETEC aimed to create a bike-mounted device capable of detecting vehicles up to 200m
behind the bike, sensing bike braking to activate a powerful flashing light as a warning to
following vehicles, and continuously recording videos of the bike trip for storage on an SD
card. Additionally, CoETEC sought the development of a mobile app allowing users to
connect via BLE to monitor approaching vehicles on their smartphones, displaying distances
and speeds in real-time. Infinity-tech was chosen due to our extensive track record of
successful collaborations and our ability to transform client visions into reality.
Solution:
PCB Design and Development
We designed a PCB capable of capturing radar data with high precision. In addition to
facilitating the seamless operation of a powerful flashing light to alert following vehicles, our
design includes continuous video recording of the bike trip, with storage capabilities on an
SD card. The PCB design ensures robust performance and scalability to meet CoETEC’s
evolving needs, managing power supply and incorporating a battery charging circuit to
optimize operational efficiency and extend device uptime.
Embedded Software Development
Our software development focused on optimizing the functionality of the device using
FreeRTOS. We implemented a robust software solution to efficiently process radar data,
ensuring precise vehicle detection and real-time monitoring of bike braking. The firmware
controls the activation of the flashing light for vehicle warning purposes, enhancing safety
on the road.
Furthermore, we enhanced camera recording efficiency and implemented robust file system
management on the SD card and optimized file transfer protocols (FTP). This enhancement
ensures seamless and reliable storage of continuous video recordings throughout the bike
trip. Our firmware design approach guaranteed smooth integration with the custom PCB,
significantly boosting overall system reliability and performance.
Mobile App Development (Android/iOS)
We developed a user-friendly Mobile App for both Android and iOS platform. This app
enables smooth connectivity via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), allowing users to monitor
approaching vehicles on their smartphones in real-time. Through user interface design,
users can view detailed information such as vehicle distances and speeds, enhancing their
situational awareness while cycling.
App Functionality:
1- Initiate a BLE connection with the device.
2- Monitor nearby vehicles using an intuitive interface.
3- Customize flashlight modes from within the app.
4- Retrieve and download recorded videos stored on the SD card.
5- Adjust recording quality and resolution settings directly in the app.
6- Playback recorded trips through the mobile interface.
7- Toggle between continuous video recording and accident video recording.
8- Monitor bike’s real-time speed via the mobile app.
9- Check device battery status through the mobile app.
10- Launch an alarm to warn the bike rider when a vehicle is getting so close with high
speed.
