Problem:
The client wanted to develop an HMI unit that seamlessly interfaces with multiple displays
while providing real-time vehicle operation and location data. The solution needed to enable
drivers to access in-car apps and services efficiently. Our task involved designing the device
architecture, specifying functional requirements, and engineering both hardware and
middleware components. We had to ensure that the solution meets automotive safety
standards, including the implementation of fail-safe mechanisms to display critical
information in case of main operating system failures.
Solution:
PCB Design and Firmware Development
We designed a custom PCB and developed the firmware and middleware to meet the client’s
requirements. The solution provided seamless communication among all different display
interfaces, it could support LIN, CAN, Automotive Ethernet, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, LTE and
Bluetooth.
The unit supports multiple options to interface with displays:
- Head-up display (viewing critical driving information)
- Media display (music, radio, browser, navigation, etc)
- Cluster Display (dashboard information)
- Service Display
FPD-Link III Cameras Integrations
The HMI unit has four camera FPD-Link III and GMSL inputs and four FPD-Link III display
inputs. For the display subsystem, we developed a custom universal adapter to support various
types of LCD panels. The adapter receives the signal via FPD-Link lll from the multimedia unit,
decodes it, and delivers it to the display. The adapter is also responsible for managing
backlight, vibration feedback on the touch-screens, and additional buttons.
Sound Noise Cancellation
The vehicle is equipped with a sound processing system incorporating six microphones. Two
microphones specifically capture the driver’s voice, while the remaining four capture
background noise such as engine and street noise.
In collaboration with the client’s team, Infinity-Tech has developed algorithms that effectively
filter out background noise captured by the four additional microphones. This enhancement
enables drivers to issue clear verbal commands to the system without interference.
Additionally, the system supports connectivity to AM, FM, DAB, and DAB+ radio sources. It
includes a high-end 4-channel audio amplifier, an audio digital interface MOST, and analog
auxiliary outputs. The advanced audio system is capable of delivering immersive 5.1 surround
sound.
